COMMUNAL ACCESSIBLE GARDEN

A garden for a proposal for 4 new build houses. The garden was on a steeply sloping site and a number of larger existing trees were to be retained creating a fabulous green background, privacy and much needed shade on warm summer days. Respecting the ground levels around the existing tree roots and facilitating access for all users led to developing a design with gently curving ribbon like paths. This led to designing a number of different social areas for that would each offer a sunlit option at different times of the day and each offered a different environment so that some spaces were large enough for larger gatherings and some more tranquil spaces. The central feature of the garden was the groups of three low rising steps leading to small terraces and finally to a water feature which was the central view and would be seen through the pathway between the new houses, a destination tempting people into the gardens.
